    • 1,000 exhibitors: World’s largest industry trade fair continues to grow
    • Multi-material lightweight construction: Lightweight Technologies Forum debuts

The lightweight construction megatrend ensures excellent growth opportunities for aluminium as an industrial material: above all, the material’s distinct technology and design advantages are making a splash in automotive engineering, the transport sector and the construction industry. ALUMINIUM 2016 in Düsseldorf will reveal how the market for lightweight materials continues to grow. Some 1,000 exhibitors from 50 nations will be on hand at the world’s largest industry trade fair from 29 November to 1 December to present trailblazing solutions for increased efficiency in aluminium production and processing.

Once again, ALUMINIUM 2016 managed to grow both the number of exhibitors and the exhibition floor space. Global players, specialists and young innovative companies dominate the picture across six exhibition halls, where ALUMINIUM will cover the industry’s complete range – from aluminium production to machines and plants for processing to finished goods and recycling. Besides lightweight construction, the emphasis will be on resource and cost efficiency as well as on emerging topics such as the “smart factory”. And with the new Lightweight Technologies Forum, ALUMINIUM dares to venture beyond the materials horizon.

As in the past, special theme pavilions will be set up in order to accomodate various focus topics, including the Competence Centre Surface Technology, the Foundry Pavilion, the Primary Pavilion, the Welding & Joining Pavilion, the Recycling Pavilion and the Magnesium Area. But exhibitors won’t just present new ideas and hands-on product displays at their exhibition stands and at the theme pavilions, they’ll do the same at two Innovation Areas returning to ALUMINIUM 2016. Two special areas - “Automotive” (Hall 10) and “Building” (Hall 12) – will enable visitors to literally “grasp” the versatility of aluminium.

The world of aluminium meets in Düsseldorf

The trade fair is the leading industry get-together for producers, processers, technology suppliers, designers and engineers from the industries that use aluminium. About 27,000 visitors from 100 nations are expected to attend ALUMINIUM. The exhibitor side is similarly international: 60 per cent of the altogether 1,000 exhibitors will travel from abroad to take part in the industry meeting in Düsseldorf. Among the largest of the 50 exhibitor nations this year (behind Germany) will be Italy followed by China, Turkey, the UK and Spain. Other European countries as well as North America, the Arab states and Asia will again be represented in numbers at ALUMINIUM, as well. A further indication of the trade fair’s international significance are the solidly booked country pavilions, including the Chinese, the Dutch, the Russian, the Danish and the Norwegian Pavilion. Moreover, a Taiwanese group stand will be making its debut this year.

Technical education programme to deliver industry and science know-how

ALUMINIUM is much more than just the world’s most important trading centre. Above all, it’s a major knowledge hub: expert presenters from industry and science at the ALUMINIUM 2016 Conference, the ALUMINIUM Forum and the Lightweight Technologies Forum will discuss the principles, trends and innovations of the aluminium sector.

Organised again by the GDA, the umbrella association of the German Aluminium industry, the ALUMINIUM 2016 Conference will focus on the material’s future prospects. In more than 40 lectures, materials experts will explore the possibilities in the aluminium-processing industry and in user markets. The conference will be held at the Congress Center East; participation requires the purchase of a separate ticket. The conference language is English.

Exhibitors themselves will take the podium at the ALUMINIUM Forum, which is part of the trade fair’s supporting programme. Over the course of the three-day lecture event, companies from the US, the UK, Russia, China and Germany will introduce their innovations and successful projects. Topics are aligned with the value chain – from the latest trends in the raw materials market to rolling and casting technology to surface finishing and aluminium recycling. The Forum will be located in Hall 11 (Stand J 75); admission is free for trade fair visitors. Presentations here will be in English as well.

The interface between metal and fibre-reinforced composite technologies

The new Lightweight Technologies Forum, which will be held as part of ALUMINIUM and the concurrent COMPOSITES EUROPE trade fair, will reflect this trend toward modern multi-material systems. Combining an exhibition and a presentation forum in Hall 8a, the event will serve as the cross-material interface between metal and fibre-reinforced composite technologies in structural components. In several application-focussed modules, experts will present their real-world experiences with issues revolving around material composites in the automotive, aerospace and architecture segments. Tickets for ALUMINIUM visitors include admission to the Forum – as well as access to COMPOSITES EUROPE.

Trade fair marketplace for lightweight construction challenges

Linking the event with COMPOSITES EUROPE is the ultimate complement in the quest to fully cover the lightweight construction trend. Some 350 exhibitors participate in the European Trade Fair for Composites to showcase technologies and trends in the glass-, carbon- and biofibre-reinforced plastics segments. “In many application areas, metal-containing composites will benefit most from the race toward lightweight materials. Together with COMPOSITES EUROPE, ALUMINIUM is perfectly positioned to face newly emerging challenges”, says Olaf Freier, who serves as organiser Reed Exhibitions’ event director for both trade fairs.

Featuring the materials aluminium, magnesium and fibre-reinforced plastics, Düsseldorf from 29 November to 1 December will be largest trade fair marketplace for lightweight construction challenges in the automotive sector, aerospace, mechanical engineering, the sports and leisure industry, wind power, and the construction sector. ALUMINIUM and COMPOSITES EUROPE are a successful trade fair duo bringing together a total of approximately 1,300 exhibitors and more than 30,000 experts from industry, research and development.
