Advanced innovations and emphasis on connected mobility are driving force in Automechanika fringe programme

Marking its second year in the new expanded venue, the 12th edition of Automechanika Shanghai continues to grow, proving to be the ideal platform offering massive opportunities for information exchange, marketing, trading and education in the automotive world. Just the exhibition space alone has increased by 12%, from 280,000 sqm to 312,000 sqm, opening up two new halls for a total of 13 halls this year at the National Exhibition and Convention Center, Puxi, Shanghai held 30 November – 3 December 2016.

An increase in exhibition space also allows for an increase in exhibitors. This year, there will be 5,756 exhibitors, an increase of 7% over last year, from 42 countries and regions filling the halls. A sizeable jump in visitors is also expected this year, with 120,000 visitors – a 9% increase – from 140 countries and regions.

Organisers have strengthened their promotional efforts this year, which has translated to an increase in visitor numbers, farther-reaching overseas and domestic exhibitors and visitors, increased delegation groups and the quality of visitors is also higher this year, providing a greater value to the exhibitors. Seeing a significant boost in participation is visitor delegations, with about 130 taking part this year, which is a 20% increase from 2015, and 29 overseas visitor delegations are coming from 16 countries, accounting for 22% of total delegations, including three newly added countries: Brazil, Myanmar and Sweden. Delegations expanded domestically, as well. The auto market in China is undergoing significant growth and organisers have extended their reach into more areas of China this year. Thanks to the support and efforts from the local governments and industry associations, more new delegations are invited from Northwest China such as Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region, Southwest China, such as Yunnan and South China’s Guangxi, Guizhou and Hainan provinces. The pre-registration number also enjoyed a significant jump, by 28% this year, bringing the total number of visitors to approximately 44,000, representing 37% of total visitors.

In addition, the Premium Buyers Club has also been expanded. In its second year, the Premium Buyers Club was organised to attract exclusive and high-level buyers from carmakers, OEMs, 1st and 2nd-tier suppliers, distributors and service providers to source at the show. The number of invited buyers has increased by 9% from 2015.

Exhibition highlights specialised zones, including Connectivity, E-mobility & Infrastructure and Motorsport & High Performance / Wheels & Rims

The continued success and expansion of Automechanika Shanghai has opened new options for special zones. This year, the Electronics & Systems sector is seeing particular gains, which has expanded and will fill the entirety of Hall 4.1. It is expecting a full spectrum of Electronics & Systems sector exhibitors at the show, including 1st and 2nd tier vehicle suppliers, telematics companies, mobile phone and network carriers, software developers, internet providers as well as suppliers of traffic technology who offer products and solutions for connected cars and mobility solutions for the future. Exhibiting companies in the Electronics & Systems sector include Aborn, CHINA-SHB GROUP, HuiRun, Mobiletron, Ri Yong-Jea, Wai Global, Yunyi, among others.

The Connectivity zone within the Electronics & Systems hall will also amplify the latest trends in connectivity, alternative drives, automated driving and mobility services. Cooperating for the first time in this zone, the Hong Kong Productivity Council (HKPC) and the Hong Kong Wireless Technology Industry Association (WTIA) will bring approximately 20 companies to exhibit at the show. In addition to showcasing the latest trends, the zone will also include a series of events, such as seminars and various vehicle and product displays to give the visitors a comprehensive insight into the world of connected mobility.

Located in the North Hall, the E-mobility & Infrastructure zone will occupy the entire hall – nearly tripling its exhibition space this year. The zone will showcase new energy solutions and highlight the developments in the automotive industry. The E-mobility & Infrastructure zone is not just a platform to demonstrate the latest products for new energy vehicles, but an integrated platform bringing together carmakers, manufacturers of batteries, electric controls and management systems for electric and hybrid cars, as well as renowned research institutes to collaborate and foster the development on these emerging areas. Exhibiting for the first time, Mercedes-Benz will showcase their much-anticipated E-mobility technologies and parts ordering system, alongside other key players such as APG, Potevio and VIE. In promoting the cross-industry collaboration, prestigious institutes such as China Automotive Technology & Research Center, Shanghai Power & Energy Storage Battery System Engineering Tech Co Ltd and Heifei University of Technology will demonstrate their research achievements. There will also be a series of forums and a variety of vehicles and product demonstrations onsite to enrich buyers’ experiences and knowledge of the products. A meeting between China New Energy Vehicle Electronic Power Control Industry Alliance and German Federal Association for e-Mobility (BEM) will also be held during the exhibition to exchange knowledge on the new energy vehicles industry between the two countries.

The Motorsport & High Performance / Wheels & Rims zone makes its debut this year, as well. Located in the West Hall, it will focus on car racing and high-performance modified parts. The zone offers the latest products on display, launching of new products and networking opportunities for industry professionals. This new zone will feature a racetrack and the Volkswagen 333, Lamborghini Huracan GT3 and Renault Megane will be on display.

It creates a distinct platform which brings together the leading companies from China and the US to network, exchange and collaborate in the Remanufacturing realm.

Building on the success of past editions, the established Parts & Components sector continues to thrive. Making their debut at Automechanika Shanghai are ACDelco, Huf, Interstate Batteries, OLYMPUS and Potevio. Returning key players include AISIN, BAIC Group, BorgWarner, Bosch, China Changan, Continental Automotive, DENSO, Federal Mogul, Hella, Hitachi, MAHLE, NAVECO, Schaeffler, Tenneco, ZF, among others.

Among the pavilions, there will be two new countries represented, those of Indonesia and Morocco. Also included in the list of pavilions are Germany, Hong Kong, India, Italy, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, Pakistan, Poland, Singapore, Spain, Taiwan, Thailand, Turkey, the UK and the US.

Advanced innovations and emphasis on connected mobility are driving force in Automechanika fringe programme

This year’s fringe programme has grown to include 56 events, which is an increase of 6% and is the largest programme to date. There will be a multitude of events covering a full spectrum of the automotive industry chain held throughout the four days. Continuing with the connectivity theme, several events within the fringe programme will be featuring events on the subject, among many other highlights, including the Connected Mobility Conference Shanghai, a unique event that is part of the Connected Mobility Roadshow three-city tour starting at Automechanika Frankfurt in Germany in September. The event will be at Automechanika Shanghai on 1 December and highlight three main themes: Connected Cars, Connected Data and Connected Customers.

In addition, a new format of fringe programme is also being introduced this year, such as experience sharing sessions in Repair & Maintenance to promote direct dialogue opportunities between exhibitors, users and buyers. The Parts & Components and Electronics & Systems sectors are also enjoying an increased number of educational opportunities and prospects for dialogue about the future of the industry. Exhibitor events, organised by key players such as Bosch, Liqui Moly, OSRAM and other product launch events will also be held at the fairground.

Automechanika Shanghai is organised by Messe Frankfurt (Shanghai) Co Ltd and the China National Automotive Industry International Corporation (CNAICO). It is one of 16 Automechanika fairs held in Africa, Asia, Europe and North, Central and South America.
