  • Taiwan Machine Tools Hosts Virtual Reality Press Conference at IMTS 2018

    Sep 08, 2018

New smart manufacturing solutions from some of Taiwan’s top machine tool brands will be showcased at "Taiwan: Make Tomorrow Come True," a virtual reality press conference to be held at the 2018 International Manufacturing Technology Show (IMTS) running Sept. 10-15 at Chicago’s McCormick Place. In addition, 128 Taiwanese companies will be exhibiting their latest innovations in smart machine tools, fully automated production lines, 5-axis machining centers, multifunction tuning/milling centers and more on the show floor, reflecting the country’s status as the world’s fourth largest exporter of machine tools and accessories.

The press conference will begin at 1:15 pm on Wednesday, Sept. 12 in the South Building-Level 4, Conference Room S402. It will feature a 360° VR video tour of key products incorporating advanced information technology, with VR goggles for every registered attendee.

Companies to be featured at the press conference include:

    • Feeler (Booth S-338129), highlighting the gantry-style FEELER U-800 5-axis machining center that won the 2018 Taiwan Excellence Gold Award. Designed for versatile high-precision machining of larger parts for the aerospace, automotive, energy and precision molds industries, the U-800 features a U-shaped structure that significantly increases structural rigidity and machine accuracy, a 32-tool magazine that can be expanded up to 120 tools, and a servo-controlled change system that can save additional changeover time.
    • NexCOBOT (Booth E-121836), offering a total industrial Internet of Things (IoT) solution with AI robot control and a cloud-based automation control system compatible with SCADA and Microsoft Azure. The company will also be exhibiting a facial recognition solution for access control to restricted areas such as factory floors at its booth.
    • Palmary (Booth N-237071), spotlighting IoT capabilities that have been added across the company’s portfolio of CNC internal, cylindrical, centerless, vertical, surface and engine value seat grinders.
    • Quaser Machine Tools (Booth S-339451), delivering wireless network, database establishment, cloud and self-developed smart software for its five-axis machines, vertical and horizontal machining centers, and flexible manufacturing systems.
    • Taiwan Takisawa Technology Co. (Booth S-338640), introducing the TiMES Smart Manufacturing Execution System with sophisticated product management, dispatch, scheduling and just-in-time delivery systems. Known for its CNC lathes and printed circuit board (PCB) drilling machines, the company also offers an IoT-based IoM machine networking automation processing program enabling machines to be connected for whole plant automation.
    • Techman Robot (Booth N-237084), creators of the first collaborative robot that combines smart built-in vision with hand-guiding functions for automated visual pick and place. The company will be unveiling the new high-load robot TM12 Series designed for the semiconductor industry, featuring load capacities higher than any other robot with the same arm length, a payload of up to 12 kg, a working range of 1300 mm, and M models matching high-performance mobile automated guided vehicles (AGVs).
    • Tongtai Group (Booth S-338536), focusing on its newest machine models, equipment for additive and hybrid additive-subtractive manufacturing, and the TIMS (Tongtai Intelligence Manufacturing System) and TLM (Tongtai Line Management) solutions enabling operators to easily control production status and improve machining efficiency.
    • YCM Industries Co. (Booth S-338450), offering an I-Direct IoT platform for intelligent production management. Platform components span shop floor reporting, equipment management, statistical process control, work in process, and equipment preventive maintenance systems, including the ability to access program, part and tool numbers as well as operating time for each machine via computer or mobile phone.

These and other Taiwanese companies exhibiting at IMTS 2018 are on the leading edge of a government-sponsored initiative to dramatically expand the country’s smart manufacturing capabilities and thereby double its machine tool revenues from NTD $1 trillion (US$25.6 billion) to $2 trillion (US$64.9 billion) over the next decade.
