  • Russia holds biggest trade exhibit in Iran

    Dec 28, 2015

Russian companies are showcasing their products and services at the Tehran international permanent fairground.

Russian companies are showcasing their products and services at the Tehran international permanent fairground.

Representatives of 80 leading Russian companies, including plane manufacturers and energy majors, are showcasing their products in Tehran in the biggest foreign display of the kind ever held in Iran.

More than 350 Russian delegates were to usher Minister of Trade and Industry Denis Manturov to the “Russia-Iran Trade and Industrial Dialog” opening at the Tehran international permanent fairground on Monday.

Standing out by its presence is a model of the Sukhoi Superjet 100 passenger aircraft which the Russians seek to sell to Iran.

Russian shipbuilders, car manufacturers, oil and gas operators, IT providers, banking and insurance companies, industrial park planners, aviation technology holders and transportation firms are also putting services on display.

Iran has signed export deals worth $21 billion with Russia, which include production and procurement of satellite-related equipment and Superjets, head of Iran Aviation Industries Organization Manouchehr Manteqi has said.

“We hope to witness the implementation of agreements between Iranian and Russian companies as soon as possible,” Deputy Industry Minister Valiollah Afkhami-Rad said.

The two countries are working to take their alliance to a new level, with Russian President Vladimir Putin visiting Tehran for the first time in eight years last month.

“The will of the two countries’ high-ranking officials to expand trade, economic and cultural exchanges is praiseworthy,” Afkhami-Rad said.

Russian Energy Minister Alexander Novak has called Tehran as Moscow’s "most important economic and trade partner," saying the two countries have devised a package of projects worth $35 billion to $40 billion.

Russia has acted swiftly to cement ties with Iran after an international nuclear accord was reached with the Islamic Republic in July, paving the way for the lifting of sanctions on Tehran in the imminent future.

“Russia is interested in dialog with Iran about potentials of cooperation in aviation, shipbuilding, energy, agriculture and transportation, metallurgy, pharmaceutical and other industries,” Manturov has said.

Manturov, Iran’s Minister of Industry, Mine and Trade Mohammad Reza Nematzadeh and Vice President Sorena Sattari were to address the opening of the exhibition attended by more than 150 executives of Russian industries.
