Standard Chemical & Pharmaceutical Co. Ltd. was founded in 1967 with capital of US$14,451 and 10 employees. The company is now worth US$33.6 million and has more than 450 employees. In 1969, we set up our first Western medicine Bulk Pharmaceutical Chemical Synthesis Department, which includes research and development, quality control and sales. The department manufactures inorganic raw materials, and develops antacid products from aluminum, magnesium, silicon and calcium, as well as a series of organic BPCs. In 1981, Standard began exporting us to pharmaceutical companies in Europe and the United States. In 1992, we established our Biotechnology Department with microbiologists and chemists from the United States and Japan. This department comprises several subdivisions including a biotechnology research center, a bioproduction facility, quality control and marketing. The department conducts large-scale production of bioactive components such as biopesticides and natural health foods. Cooperation with overseas institutes is critical. Now, we've six research departments and two of these have special divisions for bulk biotech pharmaceutical development. In 1988, we became the first local pharmaceutical plant to obtain ISO 9001 quality certification and its manufacturing facilities were endorsed by the US FDA in 2000. We won the "Gold Award" in the "National Pharmaceutical Quality Awards" as an outstanding pharmaceutical enterprise for three consecutive years beginning in 1998. Standard has also upgraded its pharmaceutical technology with automatic ampoule inspection machines, in-series synthesis manufacturing techniques, pellet production machinery for sustained release dosage forms, automatic powder filling and capping machines, powder characteristic testers, automatic capsule filling machines, automatic filtration dryers, glass reactors, fermenters and computer-controlled dissolution testers. Our international experience such as contract manufacturing for Switzerland's Novartis, co-marketing with France's largest pharmaceutical plant Rhone-Poulenc Rorer, Germany's Bayer and Japan's Kyoto Daiichi have increased our product diversity, business competitiveness and global share. We are also preparing to pursue distribution partnerships and strategic alliances.
