In September of 1956, Charles P. Van De Motter, known to his employees and friends as "Bud", founded The Ohio Broach & Machine Company in his father's four-car garage on the East Side of Cleveland. Initially, the company business centered on the design, manufacturing and sharpening of broach tooling. During the early 1960's the growth of the company necessitated a move to larger facilities at 399 East 131st Street in Cleveland, Ohio. During the same period of time, the company began the rebuilding of broaching equipment as well as forming a new department for contract production broaching.

In the late 1960's, the company started the design, manufacturing, and marketing of its own line of broaching equipment, the "Ohio" broaching machine. Continued growth in all areas of the company resulted in another move 34 years ago in September, 1974. This is to our current location, then 20,000 square feet in Willoughby, Ohio. Steady business developments have required additional expansions to the original structure, which has increased to in excess of 50,000 square feet of floor space. Today, The Ohio Broach & Machine Company employs about 35 people, with revenue of over $7,000,000 in sales.

Our sales have been worldwide, with our equipment being used in Canada, Mexico, Europe, Israel, the Philippines, South Korea, and China.

Vertical, horizontal and combination broaching machines are available. Machine capabilities include broaching of soft materials including brass, bronze and copper and nonmetallic materials including graphite, hard rubber, wood composites and some plastics. Capabilities include contract production broaching services, broach machine rebuilding, broach tool sharpening, reconditioning and repair including tool keyways, splines, squares, hexagons, rounds and special forms. Other services include broach tool welding and repairs, various coatings, disassembly and reassembly of broach holder bars, troubleshooting, engineering and consultation services. Markets served include automotive, firearms, defense, aerospace, hand tool, oil & gas and many more. 24-hour emergency sharpening services is available.
