  • Economic Downturn-TAITRONICS Strived with Flying Colors

TAITRONICS Strived with Flying Colors during Economic Downturn by Continuous Innovations
The 2008 Taipei International Electronics Show (TAITRONICS 2008) ended on a good note on October 11th 2008. During this four days event, a total of 1,109 manufacturers participated in the show and 2,311 booths were used. Besides a 60% growth in the exhibition area from last year, there were many innovative approaches that received widespread applauses this year, including:

     I. It was the first time that the show was relocated from Exhibition Hall of the Taipei World Trade Center to the Nangang Exhibition Hall. The relocation effectively solved the long-term insufficiency of exhibition space for TAITRONICS. Both manufacturers and buyers had a more spacious and comfortable setting for business talks.

II. The Taiwan Business Alliance Conference held in tandem with Taipei Summit 2008, which integrated and demonstrated a full spectrum of Taiwan’s R&D and manufacturing strength in the electronic industry in front of the participating foreign business representatives.

III. The “IC design” and “LED & Lighting” sections were planned for the first time and participated by leading manufacturers in the industry, adding to the professionalism of TAITRONICS.

Despite the pessimistic atmosphere in the global economy since October, TAITRONICS continued to gather the best exhibitors and their products in the industry, including MediaTek, Macronix, Teco, Inventec, Everlight, UMEC, GKB CCTV, Good Will Instrument, Chroma ATE, Shihlin Electric, Winbond, Epson, etc. International buyers from AT&T, Vodafone, and Lenovo Mobile, a total of 4,300 people, came to make their procurements and seek more business opportunities. The on-site and subsequent deals altogether accounted for several billion of US dollars, an impressive result in the midst of a sluggish global economy.

Making the Best of Present Advantages to Create New Opportunities

In 2009 there will be the 35th TAITRONICS, held concurrently with the third “Taiwan RFID Applications Show” from October 8th to October 11th at the TWTC Nangang Exhibition Hall. As 2009 is perceived to be a harsh year for the global electronic manufacturers, the show organizer, Taiwan External Trade Development Council (TAITRA) will continue to make the best of present advantages of the Taiwanese electronic industry at TAITRONICS. It will expand the LED & Lighting exhibit area by introducing more products in line with the idea of environmental protection and energy-saving.

TAITRA will utilize the new trade incentive program of the Ministry of Economic Affairs, to invite and subsidize buyers from emerging markets to visit the show in order to counterbalance the impacts from the sluggish American and European markets. More efforts will be devoted to Mainland China buyers in light of the opportunities arising from the direct cross-strait flights. More seminar topics targeting the green and energy-saving electronic products and technologies, as well as the release conference for new products will be provided to meet the demand of buyers around the world.

TAITRONICS will work toward the goal of building the best professional electronic components and assemblies procurement platform in the Asia Pacific region for electronic. This ambition is build upon the global competitiveness index of the Taiwanese IT industry, which is only second to the U.S. (Note: The Business Software Alliance (BSA) 2008 Report), and the world’s No. 1 in the State of Cluster Development Index (“2007 – 2008 Global Competitiveness Report” of the World Economic Forum).

Along with the government’s proactive industrial development strategies “Two Innovations” (technology innovation and brand innovation) and “Two Highs” (high technology intensity and high value addition), it is believed that TAITRONICS will pull the electronic industry in Taiwan through the economic downturn with triumphant success.
